Jakarta, 31 August 2024 – Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to strengthen international cooperation. The country promotes global prosperity and sustainable economic development through various strategic initiatives. This effort is significant progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, National Development Planning Ministry (PPN)/National Development Planning Agency's (Bappenas) Economic Affairs Deputy, confirmed this on Saturday, 31 August in Jakarta.
"From 2021 to 2022, Indonesia organized various activities, such as trainings, workshops, seminars, and knowledge-sharing events with countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, and the South Pacific. These activities are meant to share experiences in planning and development and strengthen economic relations," Amalia said.
Indonesia's active role in South-South and Triangular Cooperation is another example. These initiatives focus on welfare improvement and economic research among developing countries.
Indonesia showed significant progress in the latest global Report on SDGs released by the United Nations (UN). The country's ranking rose from 102 in 2019 to 75 in 2023.
Amalia mentioned that 63 percent of SDGs indicators in Indonesia had reached the target, while 16 percent of other indicators showed significant improvements.
"This strengthens Indonesia's position as one of the most progressive countries in the upper middle-income group to achieving the SDGs," Amalia said. "This achievement proves Indonesia's commitment to addressing global challenges and achieving inclusive and sustainable development."

The country has also adopted innovative financing methods, such as blended finance, to support sustainable development projects. An example of a blended finance application is the development of tourist villages in Bali, which drive investment and build infrastructure without burdening the state or regional budgets (APBN or APBD). This scheme uses a variety of funding sources, including from the private sector, to create sustainable financing solutions.
”This financing method allows us to combine public and private resources, which not only accelerates development but also ensures its long-term sustainability," said Amalia.
He also highlighted the importance of the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP) 2024, which will be held on 1--3 September in Bali. The Forum will serve as a platform for global leaders, practitioners, and stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences, and practical solutions for accelerating development and strengthening developing countries' economies.
"We want to ensure that high economic growth is also sustainable without compromising the environment or social welfare,” Amalia concluded.
With strong commitments and initiatives, Indonesia continues to actively strengthen international cooperation and promote sustainable development. The HLF MSP 2024 in Bali is expected to be an important event to strengthen global collaboration and achieve common goals in sustainable development. (Bappenas/TR/Elvira Inda Sari).
