Badung, 2 September 2024 — Indonesia emphasizes the significance of multi-stakeholder partnerships to expedite the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia and other developing nations.
Vivi Yulaswati, Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources of the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), made the statement on Monday (2 September 2024) in Nusa Dua, Bali, on the sidelines of the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP) and the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) Joint Leaders Session 2024.
Currently, achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) presents significant challenges. In 2023, the UN Secretary-General mentioned that only 15 percent of SDG targets are on track, with the remainder regressing. More than half of the world is at risk of falling behind.
“The SDGs serve as a collaborative platform across sectors, subsectors, countries, and cities to ensure that all processes entail collaboration and that no one falls behind. As we approach 2030, we require tangible examples and continuous synergy. At the HLF MSP 2024, we will be presented with solutions and best practices from each country, which we can then adopt and implement,” explained Deputy Vivi.

According to the Sustainable Development Report 2023, Indonesia is currently ranked 75th globally, up from 102nd place four years ago.
Additionally, she mentioned that of the 226 SDG indicators with available data, around 77 percent have been achieved or are making progress. However, 23 percent of the indicators still demand special attention, indicating the necessity for enhanced collaboration and cooperation, including cross-border efforts.
The HLF MSP 2024 serves as an important platform, including for Indonesia, for multi-stakeholder collaboration, sharing best practices, and generating concrete solutions to achieve SDG targets.
“The HLF MSP is a platform for sharing experiences. For instance, Indonesia has a blue economy framework and a circular economy action plan that are valuable for collaboration. Development in the context of SDGs requires transformation, and Indonesia has prepared for this in the National Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025-2045. This is all very worthy of discussion, including learning about the rapid progress being made in African countries,” concluded Deputy Vivi. (Bappenas/TR/Elvira Inda Sari/WW).
