Badung, 2 September 2024 – Indonesia is ready to become a key partner for Tanzania and Zanzibar due to its extensive experience in business management, marine tourism, and marine ecosystem conservation.

This was affirmed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, at a bilateral meeting with the President of Zanzibar, Hussein Ali Mwinyi, in the Casablanca Room, Mulia Hotel Nusa Dua, Bali, on Monday, 2 September.

"President Hussein, welcome to Indonesia. Thank you for your Excellency's attendance. I want to emphasize Indonesia’s commitment to continuously strengthening economic cooperation with Zanzibar," President Joko Widodo stated.

President Jokowi then highlighted the potential for cooperation in the blue economy sector. According to the President, Indonesia is ready to become a key partner for Tanzania and Zanzibar due to its extensive experience in business management, marine tourism, and marine ecosystem conservation.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the development of the blue economy with Tanzania has been signed, and President Jokowi expressed his hope for its potential expansion to include Zanzibar.

"Indonesia wants to be a key partner for Tanzania and Zanzibar and is ready to share our experiences in business management, marine tourism, and marine ecosystem conservation," the President remarked.

Moreover, President Jokowi also emphasized the importance of cooperation in the tourism sector, and Indonesia is ready to share experiences in promoting and managing environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism.

"Currently, the MoU on tourism cooperation with Tanzania and Zanzibar is under internal discussion, and we hope this cooperation can strengthen cultural and economic ties between our countries," the President said.

Lastly, President Jokowi reaffirmed Indonesia’s readiness to collaborate on development programs in Zanzibar. The cooperation will be tailored to meet Zanzibar’s needs through the Indonesian Aid mechanism. 

"We are open to collaborating with Zanzibar through programs adjusted to Zanzibar’s needs through the Indonesian Aid mechanism," said the President.

Also accompanying the President in the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Minister of Investment/Head of Investment Coordinating Board Rosan Roeslani, and Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
