Badung, 2 September 2024 – Indonesia emphasized its unwavering commitment to being part of the global solution, a stance that has not changed since the Asian-African Conference held in Bandung, Indonesia, in 1955.

This was conveyed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko “Jokowi”  Widodo, in his remarks during the opening of the Joint Leaders' Forum of the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnership (HLF MSP) and the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) 2024 in Bali, Monday (2/9/2024).

"Indonesia is committed to being part of the global solution, defending the interests of the Global South, and acting as a bridge builder in advocating for equality, justice, and solidarity to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is a consistent commitment that Indonesia has upheld since the Asian-African Conference, 69 years ago," Jokowi stated.

He emphasized to all the delegates present at the HLF MSP and the 2nd IAF that they must strive to create positive change amidst a world full of challenges, including economic slowdowns, high unemployment rates, inflation, and ongoing geopolitical tensions that have claimed many lives and disrupted global supply chains.

However, the President noted that during such times, international solidarity is waning, the spirit of multilateralism is increasingly sidelined, and fragmentation is widening.

"In the end, developing countries are the most affected. Millions of people in developing countries are the ones who suffer the most," he stressed.

Jokowi also pointed out that there are only six years left until the 2030 SDGs, and only 17 percent of the SDG targets have been achieved.

Therefore, he emphasized the need for new direction and vision, as well as new strategies and tactical steps, to realize more equitable development for developing countries. (Rangga Pandu Asmara Jingga, Agus Setiawan TR/Elvira Inda Sari/FI/PR).
