Badung, 2 September 2024—Indonesia successfully reached an investment agreement in the health sector at the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF MSP) and the 2nd  Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) Joint Leaders Session 2024. The total value of the agreement is US$94.1 million.

The agreement was signed via a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Indonesia and several African countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, and Namibia.

This was stated by Dewi Justicia Meidiwaty, Director for African Affairs, Directorate General for Asia-Pacific and African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Monday, 2 September, in Nusa Dua, Bali.

Several leading Indonesian companies, including PT Biofarma, Biofarma Group, Dexa Medica, Triton, and PT Pertiwi Agung (Mensa Group) are participating in this cooperation.

The atmosphere as heads of state/government and delegations attended the HLF MSP & 2nd IAF Joint Leaders Session 2024 in Nusa Dua, Bali, Monday, 2 September. Through PT Bio Farma (Persero), Indonesia established a strategic cooperation with Zimbabwe and Ghana. In Zimbabwe, Biofarma signed an MoU with NatPharm Zimbabwe in the sectors of product registration, distribution, and marketing of pharmaceutical products.

Meanwhile, in Ghana, Biofarma will engage in technology transfer with Atlantic Lifesciences to provide staff training in Bandung and bulk API shipment.

Through Biofarma Group, Indonesia also extended its cooperation with Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda. In Kenya, they signed a Master Agreement for technology transfer collaboration with Kenya Biovax Institute.

In Nigeria, Biofarma Group has formed a cooperation of the purchase of Td and measles vaccines by the Nigerian government, as well as technology transfer for vaccine production with BVNL Nigeria. Meanwhile, in Uganda, a Sales Agreement was signed for the marketing of pharmaceutical products, with sales execution projected to occur in 2026 or 2027.

In 2023, PT Dexa Medica made its first export of pharmaceutical products to Tanzania, with a projected export value of US$2.5—3 million over the next three years. In addition, PT Triton Manufactures supplied syringes for South Africa, while PT Pertiwi Agung (Mensa Group) successfully signed a purchase agreement for instant energy drinks in Namibia.

This cooperation is based on the principles of the Bandung Spirit, which has highlighted solidarity and cooperation among Asian and African countries since the 1955 Asian-African Conference. With this spirit, Indonesia and African countries are actively enhancing their bilateral ties, not only in the health sector but also in other mutually beneficial fields.
